New Year’s Resolutions
By early November, Emma and Lucy were eager to start their annual list. Normally, Daniël loved the ritual, but this time his behavior was off. He delayed, insisting it was too soon or that he wasn’t in the mood.
Emma waited, but Lucy grew restless. Finally, her daughter declared she couldn’t wait anymore. That decision would set into motion the day Emma discovered the chilling truth—one that would leave her no choice but to call the police.
Starting Without Him
When Lucy warned that she and Emma would start the resolution list without him, Daniël’s reaction caught Emma off guard. Instead of protesting, he seemed almost relieved. Calmly, he said he would make his own list this year—and then made Emma promise not to read it.
