In Danger
Daniël’s eyes narrowed. “Is something wrong?” he asked lightly.
Panicked, Emma blurted out, “Oh, I’m just calling my mom.”
The officer, hearing the tension, spoke gently: “Are you in danger?”
Emma froze. Just months ago, she would have laughed at the thought. But now the truth weighed heavy. Voice trembling, she whispered, “Yes.”
Nerve-Wracking Moments
The officer assured her help was on the way. Emma tried to keep the line open, rambling nonsense to pretend she was still on the phone with her mother.
Sirens soon pierced the stillness. Daniël’s expression shifted as he caught the sweat on her brow, the tremble in her lips. He understood.
Leaning in, he whispered coldly, “What have you done?” Then he bolted out the back door.
Surrounded by Police
Officers stormed inside, and Emma pointed them toward the woods. Within minutes, Daniël was surrounded.
“Come out with your hands up!” they shouted.
For a moment, Daniël resisted. But when faced with the reality of losing Lucy forever, he surrendered.
